Hello! I’m Shashank.
I am currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at NMAM Institute of Technology (NMAMIT), Nitte (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, India. Over the past 11+ years, I have balanced teaching, research, and innovation, driven by curiosity and a passion for technology.
I earned my Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence & Health Informatics from NITK Surathkal, where I developed a disease prediction system leveraging multimodal medical data, under the guidance of Prof. Ananthanarayana V S. I also hold an M.Tech and a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, both completed with distinction.
My research interests span machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, IoT, and healthcare analytics, with recent focus on federated learning and AI security. I am particularly fascinated by the intersection of these fields and their real-world applications. Through an interdisciplinary approach, I aim to create solutions that are not only technically robust but also socially meaningful.

As the Manager of the New Age Incubation Network (NAIN) at NMAMIT—an initiative by the Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society, Government of Karnataka—I’ve had the opportunity to mentor over 48 student-led startups, supporting them in securing more than ₹50 lakhs in funding. These experiences have deepened my commitment to nurturing innovation at the grassroots level.
I also lead the Centre for Student Innovation (CFSI), which brings together several passionate student communities including the Aero Club, Robotics Club, IoT Club, SAE, and of course, my brainchild—Finite Loop, NMAMIT’s flagship coding club. As the founding faculty coordinator of Finite Loop, it’s been a rewarding experience to witness its growth over the past nine years—from a small group of curious coders to a thriving community of over 600 students, actively learning through coding, building real-world projects, participating in and organizing hackathons, and engaging in hands-on workshops.
Alongside my academic work, I co-lead Inspirante Technologies Pvt. Ltd., a faculty-driven startup focused on developing practical, customized software solutions for institutions and industry partners. Over the past six years, we’ve delivered over 25 solutions to esteemed clients in the education and service sectors. Our efforts were recognized as an Innovative Startup at the Startup Nitte Conclave 2024, where we were acknowledged for our contribution to applied innovation.
On the academic front, I’ve authored 20+ peer-reviewed publications in Scopus/Web of Science-indexed journals and conferences and hold 8 patents. I recently wrapped up an exciting consultancy project as the Principal Investigator, in collaboration with JP Morgan and NMAMIT. Focused on federated learning and security, the project was powered by a ₹10.5 lakh grant. The project not only deepened my understanding of privacy-first AI but also opened doors to new possibilities in secure collaborative intelligence.
I am grateful to be recognized as the "Distinguished Teacher" of NMAM Institute of Technology for the Academic Year 2024-25 during Nitte University’s Teachers’ Day Celebrations at Mangalore. This honor highlights my contributions to higher education, research, and various collegiate initiatives. I was also privileged to receive the "Outstanding Young Faculty" award at the AWE Awards, jointly organized by Abhijnya Educations Pvt. Ltd., WizdomED, and Steinbeis University, Germany.
